Outgoing 2009-10 MYPs

Outgoing Members of Youth Parliament presented their achievements throughout the past 12 months and officially launched the Anti-Bullying Charter to an audience of friends, family, Councillors, MPs and most importanty the Elections 10 Candidates within the Council Chamber, Shire Hall, Gloucester on Thursday, 11 February.

After hearing from the outgoing MYPs, the focus turned to the Elections 10 process and the Candidates.

This year 12558 votes were cast by young people across the county to elect their represenatives - the highest vote ever received in the county!

Each of the 34 Candidates who went all the way to the polls were congratulated for their interest and enthusiam to be part of the UK Youth Parliament and each shared their Candidates Address.

Many congratulations go to those successfully elected who will begin their year with their first meetng next week.

Great day in the morning, people...

Congratulations to all, but as a Gloucester resident, particularly to Craig Price and Yahya Pandor. I don't know anything about Yahya, but I do know that Craig's experience of e-media vilification at Bishops' College, after he raised concerns about exam revision and the apparently abysmal state of the toilets, should give him an insight that previous D/YMPs seem to have lacked (Bishops' College wasn't included in the anti-bullying survey).

To all those elected, don't be afraid to ask questions, even, or especially, if people try to put you off doing so. If you can't be awkward at your age, when CAN you?

Just to let everyone know -

Just to let everyone know - all schools and youth centres in gloucestershire were asked about the bullying consultations! We could only go to the ones who invited us though =]

CONGRATULATIONS! =]

CONGRATS!!!

It may feel pretty scary at the moment, but trust me, it'll soon be an amazing whirlwind experience =]
Have fun this year guys - wish i could be there again =]
See ya Around!

Ex-MYP, GLoucester/Forest(feels strange writing this!)

Congratulations to the 6 of you

Well done to all the newly elected (D)MYPs, you'll have an amazing year, and will achieve so much, remember to try your hardest but have fun as well because it soon shoots past you.

And adding onto my fellow ex MYPs comment, we sent letters to every secondary school across Gloucestershire and all those who responded within the terms able we went to, as MYPs we worked our hardest to ensure we did consultations at schools spread across Gloucestershire, and as many as we could, and then with our findings from these we visited created our report. We worked very hard all year, and now that this years MYPs will do the same.

Good luck guys and any questions feel free to ask (I shall be at your regional meetings)

Siobhan Brasier (Ex MYP for Costwold and Stroud) =]

There are more questions than answers

And the first awkward, if slightly rhetorical question would be, why would a school with a poor bullying record be reluctant to 'invite' the UKYP to ask them about bullying?

Whether there is an answer or not, I'm still confident that I shall be hearing a lot more about UKYP Glos this year, even if the website goes the way of Hear By Right and Gloucestershire Grapevine...

And there's always the UKYP forums =)

Schools Involvement

The question should not be about reluctancy, but one of time pressures to fit everything in! Many schools would have loved to have taken part in the consultation but with many pressures on them, particularly exams at the time it was not possible.

The schools that were consulted, along with results of other consultations and results of the online pupil survey were all taken into consideration when MYPs compiled the anti-bullying charter. This charter will soon be available for all youth projects and schools to download and sign up to, further details to follow on the anti-bullying page soon.

In addition, the reason the Grapevine website no longer exists is that this project was closed over a year ago and details of HBR group can be obtained via contacting the HBR coordinator via the Gloucestershire County Council's website.

'All *boys*!' notes Kira...

I'm sure that whatever excuses are offered for Bishops' College being left out, Craig Price will know exactly how much use UKYP Glos was to him when the bullying campaign was publicised in The Citizen. All the surveys in the world aren't as effective as direct intervention.

My warm congratulations to

My warm congratulations to those who ranked top among other candidates. I am wondering if there could be a chance of getting caught being a fly voters in an online election... If any sites would go to reveal every activity of the voters, I think, all will be in chaotic situation especially political matters is very strong in a democratic country. I hope I could check out the final results in the Please Rob Me.com. I will twitter about it.

Votes are in?

My daughter apparently *still* hasn't been told how many votes she got by email, as promised...

No of Votes Received by Candidates

All Candidates who wish to know exactly how many votes they received and the position they came in their constituency have been notified to let CJ Phelps, Youth Engagement Worker, know that they would like to receive this information. Joe K's daughter requested this information by email and a response has been forwarded to her email several days ago, if for any reason she has not received that email, then CJ would appreciate her calling her asap.

Message received

Message received, after email. That point is worth emphasising, though, because Kira had to send the email despite being promised (along with the other candidates?) on the night of the results that they would be sent to her. By some police guy who had a hand in the voting or the count, as I understand.

It's typical, with most organisations, that people forget to do things, or check things, but when it happens, they should just be honest about it. They get more respect in the end for being candid.

It was another strange diversion from the typical election process, like giving a candidate's speech after the voting had finished, that on the night, the votes weren't read out. I guess it was all part of that 'we don't want to upset anyone who got less votes' mindset. I don't suppose UKYP Glos are ever going to announce the results properly?

On the election night the

On the election night the opportunity was there for all successful and unsuccessful candidates to know their results, no one said that they wanted to so this was drop on the night, however in that workshop (and many times after) it has been said that any young person wanting to know their results can email CJ who will get back to them as soon as she can.

However this is only if they want this done, Gloucestershire Youth Parliament are not going to advertise all results online or in public, due to confidentiality and to ensure each young person is happy.

I really wouldn't expect any

I really wouldn't expect any other answer, although it's a pity that any young 'politician' apparently has to learn the art of the fob off when they could be doing so many more practical things. Like using the Facebook page. As I've been blocked from commenting by Oliver Warne (fair play, the page *is* run by young people), perhaps one of you would like to post this link for a Citizen article about cyber-bullying..?
