The House of Commons event was a phenomenal experience for all of us who were involved. After such an amazing build up to the day, the debates themselves certainly lived up to the anticipation! The day itself was incredible from the outset with so many young people together to make history and take part in what was such a groundbreaking event not only for the Members of Youth Parliament but for the voice of all young people. The introduction by John Bercow actually felt quite moving because it really brought home where we were and the sheer significance of being the very first people to sit and debate from the green benches, other than the MPs themselves. Once the debates got going there was a fantastic atmosphere within the Chamber with all of the MYPs making the most of the experience and enjoying the exhilaration of the passionate, sometimes heated, debates.
It was fantastic to see how much positive media coverage we received in a time where around 70% of media coverage of Young People is negative and to be a part of that makes you feel very proud indeed in terms of contributing to something that the voice of all the UKs young people will benefit from. I was lucky enough to speak in the Chamber, which was again a great experience but certainly a little bit nerve-racking! Overall, it was a brilliant day and I am so pleased to have been a part of history in making.
