One County, One Voice (Youth Forum) Event Great Success

Over the last few months, Members of Youth Parliament (MYPs) have been planning the above event for district and countywide youth forums.

On Monday, 25 October, the MYPs were joined by 32 young people from MAD Young Peoples Council, Stroud Youth Council, Gloucestershire Young Carers Forum, the Disability Forum, the Cotswolds Youth Forum and the Forest Youth Forum at Chequers Bridge Youth Centre, Gloucester.

During the morning MYPs welcomed the opportunity to engage with forum members, shared their priorities and what they had achieved to date snd participated alongside forums members within a Road Safety, Police Engagement or Media Training workshop.

Following lunch and the opportunity to engage within a marketplace with stands covering Sexual Health, Accreditation, NHS and Gloucestershire LINK, forum members were able to hear news of the new Mega Weekend ticket for young people being trialled by Stagecoach during November and input ideas to how best market this opportunity. Following an interactive discussion with Stagecoach, forum members were presented with information regarding the Local Transport Plan 3 and had the opportunity to ask questions and comment on the plans proposals etc.

To conclude the day, MYPs presented a range of topical issues for debate, infact these issues would be the ones debated by the entire UK Youth Parliament in the House of Commons that Friday, Topics discussed included: Sex and Relationships Education, Transport, University Fees and War. The debate was a highlight of the day and MYPs enjoyed gaging the views of young people present.

The MYPs hope that this event will mark the start of an annual event for youth forums from across the county.
