Today, (Wednesday 13th April), I attended the South West regional meeting. It was an interesting and productive day.
Our first session was a new thing in which MYP’s put forward a motion to be debated- this time it was whether or not UKYP south west should hold elections in the same way and at the same time, there were arguments put for and against this motion. At the end of the debate we had a vote- the result was 13 against changing the election process and 12 for changing the election processes.
After that we had updates and we discussed what we would like to see at the annual sitting in terms of workshops, speakers and entertainment. After that we had a presentation from Channel 4 Battlefront program about what they do and some of the campaigns they have run.
We then had local updates from Wiltshire, Swindon, Bath & NES, following this we had a workshop/consultation on relationship and sexual health in our areas and logos for the service to put outside pharmacies and G.P surgeries. I also did some media work, a short video about our local and regional manifesto priorities.
After that we had a debate- should we change the voting system to A.V. I personally think we shouldn’t for many reasons the main one being it could cost up to £250 million to change the system, money that could be better used and spent elsewhere.
After that it was feedback and any other business and then it was time for goodbyes.
